About the Role
We're seeking a Senior Food Safety Technician (Quality Assurance / Quality Control) to join our Technical Team at our Brisbane, Queensland site. This hands‑on and influential role supports the Technical and Operations teams to maintain and continually improve our food safety and quality management systems, ensuring compliance with BRC, WQA, retailer standards, and FSANZ. You will provide leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to our site Food Safety Technician team, helping develop their capability and ensuring consistent, first‑time technical excellence across production operations. As the deputy to the Site Technical Manager, you will also provide leadership coverage when required – maintaining site compliance, customer assurance, and technical decision‑making in their absence.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead, coach, and mentor the site Food Safety Technician team to build capability and drive performance.
* Oversee food safety and quality compliance across all site operations.
* Conduct internal audits, pre‑operational hygiene inspections, and product verification checks.
* Support external audits (BRC, WQA, Coles CFMSR, ALDI, HACCP, GMP).
* Deputise for the Site Technical Manager during periods of leave or absence, ensuring ongoing leadership and decision‑making across all technical and quality functions.
* Investigate non‑conformances, perform root‑cause analysis, and drive effective corrective actions.
* Assist with supplier assurance, raw material trials, and new product development validations.
* Support the Site Technical Manager to ensure testing schedules meet customer and budget requirements.
* Partner cross‑functionally to promote best practice and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Champion One Harvest's food safety culture through engagement, visibility, and coaching on the floor.
* Contribute to KPI achievement – zero recalls/withdrawals, complaint reduction, and audit compliance excellence.
About You
You're an experienced and proactive professional who thrives in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment and has a passion for food safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
You Will Bring
* Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or equivalent experience.
* Experience in food manufacturing, ideally within High Care/High Risk chilled or ready‑to‑eat products.
* Strong working knowledge of HACCP, GMP, FSANZ, and third‑party standards (BRC, CFMSR, retailers).
* Proven ability to support or lead internal and external audits.
* Strong communication, influencing, and problem‑solving skills.
* Excellent organisational and multitasking abilities, with a solutions‑driven mindset.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data reporting.
Desirable
* Demonstrated leadership or mentoring experience within QA, food safety, or hygiene teams.
* Exposure to retailer or customer audit processes.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities and improvement initiatives.
