About the Role
A new opportunity exists for a Communication Systems Engineer to join our growing team. Reporting to the Team Leader – Engineering and working with a team of highly skilled and dedicated professionals, the Communication Systems Engineer will be responsible for the planning, design and implementation of communication systems delivering voice and data connectivity, both in the wired and wireless communications space.
Collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders, this role will assess, plan, design, document, configure, test and commission communication systems and networks that are efficient, reliable and secure, scalable and cost-effective.
This role is predominantly office based, however will be required to travel to remote sites for site survey, troubleshooting and commissioning purposes, on an ad-hoc basis.
Skills and Experience
We are seeking candidates with the following skills and experience:
* Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Communications, Electronic, Electrical, Telecommunications) or another relevant field
* Eligible for membership of Engineers Australia as a Professional Engineer at the grade of member (MIEAust)
* A minimum three years of practical professional experience in the design and implementation of wired and wireless communications systems
* Experience working in a communications engineering design and implementation role within a related industry such as Telecommunications, Mining, Oil & Gas, Rail, Utilities or Defence
* Experience across design and documentation, procurement, system configuration, testing and commissioning
* Strong communication systems knowledge and experience in:
* Digital and analogue voice mobile radio systems (TETRA, P25, DMR, etc)
* Wireless data Wi-Fi, LTE, 5G
* Backhaul technologies, including microwave transmission and fibre-optic solutions
* Antenna, leaky feeder, duplexers, combiners and filter system designs
* Design of underground mining voice and data communication solutions
* Passive infrastructure designs including equipment housing and mounting, cabling and interconnection technologies
* Exposure to Ethernet networking including switching, routing and firewalls
* Exposure to associated electronic systems such as CCTV, Physical Access Control, duress and alarm systems, and fire systems
* Knowledge and experience in design of built infrastructure (towers, communications rooms, mobile infrastructure solutions) associated with these communication systems
* Ability to learn in a rapidly changing technological environment
* Problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
* Excellent time management and multitasking skills
* Sound interpersonal skills and ability to effectively liaise with others
* Strong organisational skills with high attention to detail
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
* Suitable knowledge and skills across the Microsoft 365 suite of applications.
