The Nepean Mental Health Centre provides inpatient care for people experiencing acute mental health issues through the short-stay Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC), the Acute Mental Health Unit, Mental Health High Dependency Unit, and Older Persons Mental Health Unit. We support our Patients by linking them to case managers for ongoing treatment and support within an environment appropriate to the person's needs.
NBMLHD Community Mental Health offer a range of specialised services for children, young people, families and older people, through our community-based services and health centres. Our multidisciplinary health professionals and case managers take a collaborative approach to mental health care by linking with their patients to work together and consult within an environment appropriate to the person's needs.
Mental Health Occupational Therapy New Graduates engage in a 24-month full-time program. The incumbents will rotate through inpatient and community services and teams, developing and enhancing mental health occupational therapy competencies. The positions work closely with current primary clinicians/care coordinators/occupational therapists with the support of a clinical supervisor and other mentors. They will function as a part of a multidisciplinary team in the provision of mental health care within a recovery focused model.
Rotations may include (but not limited to):
- Nepean Mental Health Centre: Delivery of Occupational Therapy services within context of an acute inpatient environment to consumers and their families, providing Occupational Therapy assessment and interventions both individual and group, that are evidenced based and will assist consumers in their recovery, functional independence and reintegration into the community and occupational roles.
- Community Mental Health Centre: Delivery of Occupational Therapy services within context of a community environment to consumers and their families, providing Occupational Therapy and Mental Health assessments, care planning and coordination, facilitation of access to a range of services required by consumers, and the delivery of a variety of psychosocial interventions, that are evidenced based and will assist consumers in relapse prevention, functional independence, and recovery in the community.

What you will bring to the role
1. Eligibility for registration to practice as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board, AHPRA, and within 12 months of graduation from an entry level Occupational Therapy program at time of application
2. Current class C NSW drivers licence or equivalent and willingness to drive for work purposes.
3. Demonstrated skills in verbal communication with consumers, teams, and agencies, with experience in clinical documentation and formal reporting.
4. Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and manage routine clinical matters with minimal supervision.
5. Demonstrated clinical experience in occupational therapy practice, skills and competencies that are transferable to a mental health setting
6. Demonstrated high level of organisational and time management skills.
7. Demonstrated experience in the use of relevant evidence-based practice resources to guide decision-making and commitment to quality improvement.
8. Demonstrated ability to engage in self-directed learning and work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
