Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Systems Specialist to provide safe, efficient, and high-quality mechanical maintenance and repair of our locomotives used in heavy-haul iron ore operations. This role ensures locomotive availability and reliability to support our supply chain, rail haulage, and production targets.
Main Responsibilities
* Conduct scheduled inspections and preventative maintenance using standardised work platforms in line with OEM manuals and statutory rail requirements.
* Inspect and repair diesel engines, fuel systems, cooling systems, and pneumatic subsystems.
* Diagnose and repair air brake equipment, diagnose faults, and replace cylinder power assemblies, traction motor blowers, and generator motor blowers.
* Conduct load testing and performance validation after repairs, and support integration of mechanical work with electrical and control systems.
* Use diagnostic tools and CMMS to identify, record, and resolve mechanical faults, maintain accurate maintenance records, complete work orders, defect reports, fault logs, and condition monitoring records.
* Participate in audits, quality checks, and continuous improvement initiatives, apply safety standards, Operating System procedures, isolation procedures, and risk management practices during all tasks.
Key Skills and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will require:
* Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including diesel engines, fuel systems, cooling systems, and pneumatic subsystems.
* Ability to conduct inspections and perform preventative maintenance using standardised work platforms.
* Experience with diagnostic tools and CMMS.
* Good communication and teamwork skills.
