Fixed Term, Part Time Role – 24 hours per fortnight
Join a leading, multidisciplinary team dedicated to advancing patient care in genomic medicine and familial cancer risk management. The Department of Genomic Medicine and Parkville Familial Cancer Centre (FCC) delivers specialized services that support individuals and families navigating the complexities of inherited cancer risk and genetic diagnoses.
About the Role
As a Clinical Nurse Consultant, you will provide advanced clinical expertise at the intersection of nursing and genomic medicine. You will be instrumental in guiding patients and their families through the lifelong implications of genetic risk, ensuring they receive tailored, evidence‐based care in a supportive and compassionate environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver specialized nursing care to individuals with inherited cancer predisposition, supporting both newly diagnosed and long‐term patients.
* Provide clear, accessible education about genetic conditions, surveillance strategies, and risk‐reduction options.
* Coordinate multidisciplinary care pathways, working closely with geneticists, oncologists, surgeons, and allied health professionals.
* Lead ongoing monitoring and follow‐up programs to ensure optimal patient outcomes and adherence to recommended care plans.
* Offer psychosocial support to patients and families, helping them navigate the emotional and practical impacts of genetic diagnoses.
* Contribute to the development and implementation of evidence‐based clinical protocols and models of care.
* Act as a key patient advocate, ensuring care is holistic, culturally sensitive, and patient‐centred.
About You
* Registered Nurse with extensive clinical experience, ideally in oncology, genetics, or chronic disease management.
* Demonstrated ability to work autonomously in an advanced practice role.
* Strong understanding (or willingness to develop expertise) in genomics and hereditary cancer syndromes.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex genetic information into meaningful guidance for patients.
* Proven experience in care coordination and working within multidisciplinary teams.
* A compassionate, empathetic approach with a strong commitment to patient advocacy and wellbeing.
Remuneration as per Nurses and Midwives (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2024‐2028. RN CLIN CON B GRADE 4B (ZJ4): $124,368.40 (full‐time equivalent – to be prorated for Part Time) dependent on candidate experience. To be discussed with Hiring Manager.

Position Summary
The Department of Genomic Medicine and Parkville Familial Cancer Centre (FCC) provides a range of services to assist individuals in adjusting to and managing a genetic diagnosis and high familial cancer risk. The Clinical Nurse Consultant plays a key role in the ongoing care and support of individuals identified as carriers of pathogenic or likely pathogenic genetic mutations. The position integrates specialized nursing practices with genetic and genomics knowledge to provide education, care coordination, long‐term monitoring, and psychosocial support for patients and families. The Clinical Nurse Consultant ensures that patients in the program receive evidence‐based, comprehensive and compassionate care.

Internal: Multi‐disciplinary team, Support departments, Specialist Clinics Team, Patient Navigators, Other Specialist Nurses, Nurse Consultants and Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Unit Managers, Inpatient nurses.
External: General practitioners, Specialist services, Community services, Precinct partners, University sector.
Essential Requirements
* Registered Nurse.
* Minimum 5 years' experience in oncology nursing at a senior level.
* Understanding of and experience with developing evidence‐based practice.
* Post‐graduate qualification in Oncology or related field.
* Demonstrated involvement in professional activities and organisations (e.g., Australian College of Nursing, Cancer Nursing Society of Australia, Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand).
Desirable Requirements
* A Master's in Nursing or a relevant field.
* Experience in conducting nursing‐based quality improvement activities or research.
