The ICT Services Division supports the department in the delivery of business priorities in the development, maintenance, testing and support of the department’s applications and systems, administration of ICT policy, frameworks, and practices and management and production of digital communication platforms and channels.

Responsibilities include network security and support, the delivery, deployment and support of remote and field ICT and critical incident response.

The main duties of the Telecommunications Officer include, but are not limited to:
What we are looking for Knowledge and experience
* Experience working as a Telecommunications technician with an understanding of complex radio communications components.
* A sound understanding of satellite communications equipment.
* Knowledge and understanding of radio communications particularly the Australian requirements for airband communication with commercial aircraft.
* Experience of repairing electronic components with an understanding of electronic circuitry.
* Ability to work remotely across a high latency low band width link.
* Understanding of a local area network, configuring switches and router's an advantage.
Skills and capabilities
* Strong stakeholder engagement, relationship building and networking skills. Team Player.
* Demonstrated ability to analyse and solve complex technical problems.
* Demonstrated ability to maintain a satellite earth station with an understanding of the components required in satellite communication.
* Proven highly developed research, analytical and evaluation skills, with the ability to resolve complex conceptual issues in line with the strategic direction of the department.
Desirable qualifications
* Cert III in Electronics & Communications – or similar.
* Satellite telecommunications qualifications.
* Radio telecommunications qualifications.

Security Clearance - This position requires a Baseline Vetting security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
Pre-employment Check - Your suitability for employment will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This process includes a requirement to undergo and satisfy a National Police Check, referee checks, character clearance and where required a pre-employment medical assessment, specified mandatory qualification(s) validation and a probation period of 6 months.
