Flinders University is seeking a Lecturer in Education (Literacy) to contribute to high-quality teaching, curriculum development, and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) within Initial Teacher Education programs. This Teaching Specialist position plays a key part in strengthening capability in early childhood and primary literacy education, an area of critical national and state priority and sustained program growth.
In this position, you will:
* Deliver and coordinate high-quality teaching in early literacy across Initial Teacher Education programs, grounded in evidence-based practice and aligned with South Australian priorities, including the Literacy Guarantee Unit and Year 1 Phonics Screening Check
* Lead curriculum design, topic coordination, and continuous improvement of literacy-focused learning experiences, embedding systematic and explicit instruction in reading and writing
* Support preservice teacher development through coaching, micro‐teaching, professional experience supervision, and modelling of effective classroom practice in partnership with schools and early learning settings
* Contribute to accreditation, quality assurance, and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), strengthening program quality and practice‐led improvement across Education
About You
You are a highly skilled educator and practitioner in literacy education, with deep knowledge of how children learn to read and write. You are passionate about preparing confident, classroom‐ready teachers who can deliver explicit and evidence-based literacy instruction.
You bring strong teaching expertise, the ability to translate research into practice, and a commitment to improving outcomes for learners in early childhood and primary settings. You are collaborative, reflective, and engaged in contemporary literacy policy and practice.
You will also demonstrate:
* A Masters qualification (or equivalent professional standing) in Education, Literacy, or a related field
* Expertise in early literacy instruction, including phonics, phonemic awareness, morphology, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing
* Experience teaching and/or coaching in higher education or school-based settings using evidence-based literacy approaches
* Strong understanding of South Australian literacy priorities and frameworks, including LGU and the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check
* Ability to design engaging, evidence-based curriculum and assessment in higher education contexts
