About The Role

This full time, 18 month trainee position is designed to set you up for a long term career in healthcare. You'll work alongside experienced staff while completing a Certificate III or IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice - fully funded by Queensland Health.

In This Role, You Will
* Support the delivery of culturally safe and respectful healthcare to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
* Learn on the job while completing structured training and study toward your qualification.
* Work closely with experienced healthcare professionals who will guide and support your development.
* Contribute to improving health outcomes through community engagement, health promotion and patient support.

Requirements
* To perform this role, it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons.
* For Trainee Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Workers: It is mandatory to be enrolled in an approved Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice Certificate III or Certificate IV qualification and continue to meet all course requirements.
* For Trainee Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners: It is mandatory to be enrolled in an approved Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice qualification and continue to meet all course requirements.
* These qualifications will be funded by Queensland Health and the successful applicant will be supported to enrol in the qualification with leave support to attend training provided.
* Pre-employment screening will be conducted for the successful applicant, including Criminal History checks.
* Blue Card Check: Potential applicants are advised that the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act 2000 requires Queensland Health to seek a 'Working With Children Check; from the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian prior to appointment to this position.
* This is a VPD risk role and may require evidence of vaccination or immunity to: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, and Tuberculosis.
* A period of probation may apply.
