Full time, fixed term until 30 June 2029 — Camperdown Campus Base Salary Level B: $127,436–$151,328 + 17% superannuation
The Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning is recognised globally as a leading centre for creative, scientific, and intellectual inquiry. Bringing together the disciplines of Architecture, Urbanism, and Design, the School investigates how spaces, cities, buildings, technologies, and services can better respond to the needs of people and society. Our academic community is known for experimentation, imagination, and critical thinking, offering students transformative learning experiences that prepare them to become engaged, globally minded citizens.
Within this environment, the Discipline of Design is experiencing rapid growth and rising success. Our research and teaching focus on shaping better futures—examining how people, organisations, technologies, and communities interact, and how design can inform and improve those relationships. Students are encouraged to rethink assumptions and prototype new systems, objects, materials, and experiences that address contemporary human and planetary challenges. To support this, our team brings together expertise from diverse fields such as engineering, psychology, digital media, musical composition, social sciences, engineering, robotics, and community activism. Collaboration is central to our work, and we partner actively across disciplines and with industry, government, not‐for‐profit organisations, and community groups.
We are now seeking a Lecturer in Interaction Design (Education Focused) to contribute to outstanding teaching and pedagogical innovation within our growing programs.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
* deliver high‐quality teaching across core and elective units, either by leading casual academic groups or teaching studio‐based classes directly
* work closely with program directors and unit coordinators to drive measurable improvements in student experience and learning outcomes
* support continuous enhancement of curriculum design, learning delivery, and student engagement
* contribute to innovative teaching practices, including work‐integrated learning and other experiential learning approaches.
About You
We are looking for an educator who is passionate about high‐quality teaching and committed to enhancing student learning. You will understand (or be eager to develop expertise in) research‐informed approaches to curriculum design, assessment, and evaluation. The ideal candidate will be collaborative, reflective, and enthusiastic about shaping meaningful educational experiences within a dynamic design school.
To be successful, you will have:
* a PhD (or near completion) in interaction design, human‐computer interaction, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience with emerging technologies
* demonstrated experience teaching in areas such as immersive technologies, UI/UX design, information visualisation, web design, front‐end/back‐end development, artificial intelligence, and/or creative coding
* ability to teach effectively across undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate levels, including lectures, tutorials, and practical or studio settings
* a track record of contributing to high‐quality educational design, delivery, evaluation, and outcomes
* an emerging network of professional, academic, or industry partnerships
* experience mentoring, supervising, or coordinating teams
* a collegial, collaborative approach, with a willingness to participate in academic governance, service, and engagement activities.
