A very successful shipbuilding and repair company in NSW is looking for their next highly skilled Fitter to join their busy team!
SkillQuest Solutions are seeking an experienced and reliable Fitter on behalf of our client who specialises in marine and mechanical systems, based in Wetherill Park, NSW. The business is dedicated to delivering high-quality ship repair, supplies, and survey services that meet the evolving needs of their customers. Location – Wetherill Park, NSW (may require some travel to nearby port facilities).
Salary - $86,000 - $96,000 (dependent on experience) + $10,000 vehicle allowance per annum, plus superannuation.

The Role
We are looking for a Fitter with strong mechanical aptitude and a passion for precision engineering. You must be reliable and committed to delivering exceptional service. Key responsibilities include:
- Assemble, fit, and install mechanical components and systems on vessels, including engines, pumps, and piping.
- Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on mechanical equipment.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals to guide work.
- Assist with fabrication and modifications of mechanical parts in collaboration with welders and machinists.
- Conduct operational tests, alignments, and commissioning of mechanical systems.
- Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
- Follow OHS standards, including confined space and PPE requirements, ensuring safe work practices.
- Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and other trades, providing clear technical feedback.
- Maintain accurate job reports, inspection checklists, and timesheets.
What We Are Looking For
- Certificate IV (or agreed equivalent) in Mechanical Fitting or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years (preferably more) experience as a Fitter in a similar role or industry.
- Proficiency with hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Experience in shipbuilding or vessel repair (desirable).
- Attention to details, quality workmanship, and effective communication.
- Valid driver’s license is preferable.
- You must have unrestricted working rights to work full-time in Australia to be eligible for consideration.
