Key Responsibilities
The Australian Antarctic Division is part of the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. We are responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals.
1. Maintain the Antarctic Treaty System and enhance Australia's influence within it.
2. Protect the Antarctic environment.
3. Understand the role of Antarctica in the global climate system.
4. Undertake scientific work of practical, economic and national significance.
We also have responsibility for administering the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Territory of Heard Island and McDonald Islands.
The Operations & Logistics Branch delivers maritime and aviation capabilities to our scientific research and supply vessel. We plan, coordinate, and deliver safe operations to our four research stations and on our voyages.
The Assets and Technology Branch provides and maintains equipment and infrastructure to support our program. Our activities range from maintenance of existing Antarctic stations and equipment to designing and manufacturing advanced scientific equipment and systems.
We seek leaders who can provide strategic direction and leadership on key priorities.
