Primary objective

Under the Guidance of the Operations Manager be responsible for the overall maintenance and appearance of the entire grounds including

Departmental residences, keeping to an arid theme. The Grounds Person/Gardener is to ensure any grounds work is completed to a

satisfactory standard.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Implement routine duties to collect all general waste and manage litter control across the campus on a daily basis. Transfer clinical

waste from holding points to the designated holding area and prepare and seal wheelie bins for collection and transportation for

disposal.

1. Ensure that mowing, edging, whipper snipping and cleaning of all lawn areas is completed when required by self or any person

contracted to perform the task. Implement the watering of all trees and shrubs as and when required ensuring water wastage is kept

to a minimum. Maintain all watering systems and repair any leakages as soon as possible. Conduct weed control in all areas, care and

pruning of all trees, shrubs, and garden beds.

1. Provide care and maintenance of all gardening machinery and tools ensuring all faulty equipment is repaired or replaced as soon as

possible. Maintain the Departmental vehicle designated to the gardening section, ensuring that the vehicle is maintained in a neat and

tidy manner and all defects are reported promptly.

1. Ensure all footpaths, entry points and cement areas are kept clean and tidy with regular high-pressure hose washing.

2. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety (WHS) policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken

in order to ensure high quality, safe services, and workplaces.

6. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated communication oral and written communication skills, including the ability to comprehend basic literacy and numeracy.

2. Ability to adapt to change, respond to challenges.

3. Ability to undertake a range of manual handling tasks.

4. Knowledge of and commitment to relevant WHS guidelines.

5. Ability to effectively organise and prioritise own workload with minimal supervision.

6. Mature interpersonal and organisational skills, with demonstrated ability to work in teams and independently.

7. Proven ability to interact effectively and respectfully with people from diverse cultures.

Desirable

1. Experience or willingness to learn small engine maintenance.

1. Experience in landscaping and general gardening duties.
2. Current NT Drivers Licence
