The Role
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Design Team. This role focuses on providing technical design and engineering development of our heating elements and associated value-added products, with a strong preference for candidates with experience in sheet metal and light fabrication.
Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, the role involves both internal collaboration with production and supply chain teams and regular customer engagement, including providing technical support pre- and post-sales.
This is a full-time position, based in Toormina, NSW.
Key Responsibilities
Design heating solutions to meet client requirements, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Prepare, submit, and review technical documentation, including drawings, schematics, and BOMs.
Develop and refine mechanical designs for industrial heating products, focusing on sheet metal and light fabrication.
Use 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) to produce detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation.
Conduct engineering calculations, FEA analysis, and material selection to ensure product performance and reliability.
Work closely with production teams to optimise designs for manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and lean production principles.
Collaborate with the supply chain team to identify cost-effective materials and components.
Assist with product testing, validation, and prototyping, ensuring compliance with relevant industry regulations.
Provide technical support to customers, including consultation and after-sales guidance.
Maintain and update engineering documentation, BOMs, and production processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
Contribute to research and development projects, improving existing product lines and driving innovation.
Personal Requirements
This role is an excellent opportunity for a technically competent and detail-oriented engineer who thrives in a dynamic and collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following attributes:
Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in sheet metal design and light fabrication is highly desirable.
Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and a sound understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing processes.
Knowledge of FEA analysis, material science, and thermal engineering is advantageous.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel and VBA programming language to write custom scripts is desirable.
Familiarity with industrial basic electrical components and wiring diagrams.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and DFM/DFA methodologies.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a logical approach to troubleshooting.
Effective time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects and changing priorities.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, with experience collaborating across departments.
A proactive approach to continuous improvement and innovation.
Customer-centric focus with a keen attention to detail.
