About the role

As an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Recruitment and Advisory Officer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping meaningful employment pathways and creating lasting impact across our department. This position is grounded in delivering exceptional customer service and specialist support, built on strong relationships and a deep understanding of the communities we serve.

Working collaboratively within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Recruitment and Advisory team, you will help drive high‑quality and consistent service delivery by drawing on your experience, cultural knowledge and commitment to supporting others. Your ability to respond to internal and external enquiries with professionalism, insight and care will ensure that every interaction strengthens trust and connection.

This role is central to supporting the recruitment of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander employees within all areas of the department. You will contribute to initiatives that increase employment, including identified and targeted recruitment, travelling to community events, contributing to projects to increase employment, provide advice to recruitment teams and, cultural awareness.

Essential requirements of the role

* This position is designated for the employment of an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. This initiative is authorised by the Department's Equal Employment Opportunity Management Plan in accordance with Part 9A of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. * Tertiary qualifications or relevant experience in Human Resource Management, Organisational Psychology or a relevant discipline.
* Effective execution of the day to day activities, following directions and consulting with the supervisor where required.
* Working with Children Check clearance for paid employment or ability to apply for clearance as this is a child-related role.
* Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.

On Thursday, 12 February 2026 at 12:30pm, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Recruitment and Advisory team will host an online Yarn Up (information session) about this role. The session will provide a detailed overview of the recruitment process, including applying for the position and interview to build confidence in your application.
