Eastern Health

Eastern Health is one of Melbourne’s largest public health services. We provide a range of emergency, surgical, medical and general healthcare services and have a proud history of serving a diverse community.

Our Employee Value Proposition is “Being a part of Eastern Health means belonging to a welcoming team of healthcare experts”.

This statement aligns with our promise to our communities, patients, consumers and staff that we will be HEALTHIER TOGETHER. Bolder than a vision for the future, our promise calls us to action. We know that working together is the only way we can achieve what is necessary for a healthier future.

About the role

Our Lived Experience Workforce (LEW) is a non-clinical team that operates across various clinical settings, including Crisis Assessment Treatment Teams, Acute Inpatient Units, Emergency Departments, Community Teams, and Rehabilitation Services within our Mental Health & Wellbeing Program.

An exciting opportunity now exists for a Senior Carer Peer Support Worker to take up a role within Eastern Health’s Access Team.

The Lived Experience Carer Support Worker in the Access Mental Health Service plays a vital role in providing support, guidance and empathy to families/carers of those seeking care. With their lived experience, a Lived Experience Peer Support Worker brings a unique perspective and understanding to their interactions with individuals, their families/carers and the Access team. This role requires independent and autonomous work practice.

About you

To be successful in this role you will possess:

* Lived experience as a family member or carer of a person who has been a consumer of public mental health services
* Demonstrated understanding and empathy of the broad impact of mental illness on consumers and carers/families and of the evidence base for inclusive, family sensitive and recovery oriented practice.
* A strong commitment to high quality care
* The ability to work as part of a diverse team
* Excellent communication and organisational skills

Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
