Criminal Lawyer Opportunity
Aboriginal Legal Service of Western Australia Limited (ALSWA) seeks a Criminal Lawyer to join our team.
This role involves appearing as an advocate in criminal courts and providing high-quality legal assistance to Aboriginal people.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, society, and the issues affecting Aboriginal people.
Responsibilities
* Represent clients in the Magistrates and Children's Courts on a daily basis.
* Scope for appearances in District and Supreme Courts.
* Regular travel to circuit courts and weekend court appearances.
Qualifications
* Ability to appear as counsel in criminal proceedings.
* Understanding of criminal law, rules of evidence, and criminal practice and procedure.
* Sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, society, and the issues affecting Aboriginal people.
* Demonstrated organisational, communication, and time-management skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Ability to work in a sensitive manner with clients.
* Ability to travel when required.
* Ability to work on weekends and public holidays when required.
* Current WA Practising Certificate.
Benefits
Fixed-term contract to 30 June 2027.
* Salary commensurate with experience: $82,858 to $140,927 per annum.
