Client Overview:
A community-focused organisation, with circa 2000 employees. Currently undergoing a large digital transformation, where new and enhanced digital platforms will be used by thousands across the Queensland public.
Position:
A Python Developer to join the development and integration teams, playing a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining robust integration code between the large scale ERP platform, external software systems, third-party applications, and partner organisations to enable seamless data exchange, process automation, and enhanced digital service delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design, implement, and maintain backend applications, services, and APIs with Python at the core
* Produce clean, efficient, well-documented code that follows contemporary standards and emphasizes long-term maintainability
* Develop robust RESTful (and selectively GraphQL) interfaces; connect seamlessly with external tools, data sources, and community-built extensions
* Carry out rigorous testing (unit, integration, system-level), debug issues, and help ensure smooth, reliable deployments
* Handle release processes using version control best practices and support automated CI/CD pipelines
* Participate fully in community-oriented workflows: iterative planning, regular alignment sessions, transparent feedback cycles, and reflective reviews
* Modernize and extend existing components by adding features, enhancing performance, refactoring for clarity, and enabling greater scalability
* Track application performance, implement thoughtful optimizations, and keep pace with progress in Python and adjacent open technologies
Required Experience:
* At least 3 years of professional software development experience with significant Python focus
* Hands-on expertise with one or more Python web frameworks (e.g., Django, Flask, FastAPI)
* Practical experience with both SQL-based relational databases and NoSQL/document-oriented stores
* Working familiarity with core front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) to support effective cross-layer collaboration
* Strong command of Git workflows and exposure to modern CI/CD practices
* Solid understanding of RESTful API design, authentication mechanisms, and service integration patterns
* Demonstrated capacity to work independently while thriving in collaborative, iterative, community-driven settings
* Sharp analytical thinking, effective problem-solving, and clear communication skills (written and verbal)
Desirable Experience:
* A degree in a relevant technical field
* Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerisation/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
* Exposure to data processing, analysis, or machine learning ecosystems (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch/TensorFlow)
* Certifications in Python, cloud technologies, or modern development/DevOps practices
