2rog Consulting - Person Description

At 2rog, we use our skills to tackle real-world water, landscape, and biodiversity challenges. We are currently growing our NSW team in Armidale and Coffs Harbour, and we're looking for experienced environmental professionals to help deliver interesting projects that shape policy, guide management, and create positive change.

We have written a 'person description' because we want you to become part of the company: to grow; to learn; and to enjoy working with us. A position description simply can't capture that.

We don't want a position; we want a person.

At 2rog every project is different and challenging but for the right person this challenge is just the right thing. It is what we love. We're not really interested in doing treadmill type projects that lots of other consultancies do.

Right now, we are looking for a person (or two or three) who is interested in helping us deliver environmental consulting projects. Some of the things we work on include:

* Water resources – monitoring projects, plan reviews, resource planning, and environmental watering design and evaluation
* Landscape analysis – spatial analysis, strategic assessments, bioregional planning, and conservation planning
* Policy and strategy – policy review, offsets strategies, environmental management, and natural capital advice
* Biodiversity planning – forestry and biodiversity planning, plan reviews, and natural capital assessments and advice
* Evaluation – program and policy evaluation design and delivery
* Science and monitoring – scientific monitoring, data analysis and interpretation, and evidence-based reporting
* Science-to-policy – bridging research, practice, and decision-making
* Stakeholder engagement – consultation, collaboration, and communication.

We want to keep delivering great outcomes across these areas and can do this by building our team. We are genuinely open to options, and so are keen to hear from you if you are a mid, senior- or principal-level environmental practitioner interested in the things we are.

What will you do

You'll play a significant role in our projects and the wider business, bringing your expertise to deliver great outcomes. Depending on your location and experience, you may lead teams, manage complex projects, and strengthen client relationships. We'll support you to grow your leadership, project management, and business development skills — and like all 2rog people, you'll keep learning on the job.

Everyone at 2rog does the following, and you would too:

* Writing. Writing is a lot of what we do. It's how we communicate complex ideas, clearly and concisely in language that is appropriate for the client and the project.
* Talking. Talking is also a lot of what we do, including advising clients, going to meetings, facilitating workshops, giving presentations, brainstorming and working through ideas.
* Collaborating. We are a small team and work dynamically across our own organisation and with numerous collaborators. This includes other consultants, government agencies, NRM bodies, academics and technical experts.
* Thinking and analysing data, reports, people and situations using your formal and informal training. It's rare for any two jobs to be the same, so thinking and adapting is critical.
* Being part of a team. We are a team company. We are better together.

Some particulars

Location: Ideally you live in Armidale or Coffs Harbour or be prepared to relocate to either of these thriving regional cities. We balance being present in the office and working from home, so you will need to come to the local office on a regular basis.

Full time / part time: We are open to either. Remember there is a 4-day working week for fulltime staff. That is 4 days, 100% pay. Not 38 hours compressed into 4 days, 4 days, really.

Salary: We'll work out a package that includes profit sharing, plus all of the other usual parts. We will work through the details with you at the right time but be assured we want to offer you something that is market competitive and meets your expectations.

What skills and experience might you have?

We are looking for good people who like being part of a small team, are enthusiastic about seeking great outcomes, and are keen to keep learning. The important things we want from you:

Sharing our Vision – helping people change the world and Values of fun, science, understanding and give back.

Relevant experience as an environmental professional in the private sector, government and/or a research institution. It's much more about what you do, than years on the job, but here is a guide:

* Three plus years for a mid-level consultant
* Eight plus years for a senior consultant
* Fifteen plus years for a principal consultant.

The following skill sets:

* A strong understanding of one or more of the following: water and/or landscape science, planning and management, biodiversity conservation, environmental and/or water regulation and policy, program and policy evaluation, and monitoring, evaluation and reporting (MER)
* An understanding of emerging opportunities, challenges, and innovations in environmental and natural resource management — including nature positive approaches, natural capital, environmental markets, and related policy and practice developments
* An ability to research, analyse, and interpret scientific and technical information — including water, landscape, and biodiversity data — and translate it into practical, evidence-based solutions and outcomes
* Excellent writing skills — able to communicate complex ideas clearly, concisely, and in a style that suits the audience and purpose
* Excellent listening and communication skills — building understanding and trust with clients, stakeholders, and collaborators
* Initiative and proactivity — taking ownership of your work and contributing to strong client and team outcomes
* Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; GIS skills helpful but not essential.

What we will provide you:

* A fun, engaging, and supportive workplace
* A 4-day working week (full-time pay) and flexible hours, with WFH options
* Profit sharing and the opportunity to own part of the company
* No timesheets (unless a client requires it)
* Annual whole-of-company get-togethers mixing serious discussion with plenty of fun
* Two weeks each year to volunteer with a cause you care about
* Ongoing learning and development — we'll help you grow your technical expertise, business acumen, and people skills through training courses, conferences (attending, presenting, and sponsoring), on-the-job learning, mentoring, and coaching.
