Department Description 
Pharmacy professionals at Covenant Health deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care across the enterprise. Our pharmacists and technicians are committed to excellence in medication management, patient safety, and clinical support. We utilize advanced technologies to ensure accurate and timely medication delivery in inpatient and outpatient settings. 
Position Summary 
Provide prescribed pharmaceuticals, medications, information and clinical monitoring for adequate patient care according to professional standards and practices.

Responsibilities 
- Compound, label and package medications and pharmaceuticals. 
- Review patient medication profiles for drug compatibilities, allergies, and appropriateness of drug orders; clarify orders and/or doses with physicians when necessary. 
- Provide drug information to physicians, healthcare professionals, and patients. Assist nursing staff in calculations of infusion rates and IV drips. 
- Dispense medications for investigational drug trials in accordance with study protocols. 
- Ensure compliance with state and federal pharmacy regulations and requirements. 
- Provide support / consultative services to physicians. 
- Supervise technicians, verify drug order entry, fill inpatient and outpatient prescriptions, and admixture of intravenous medications. 
- Inform patients and families on proper use of medications, including dosage, side effects and composition. 
- Maintain secure storage of narcotics and other controlled substances. 
- Inspect nursing units monthly to ensure medications are maintained according to Tennessee State Law and manufacturer storage requirements. 
- Assist in preparing computerized patient care reports such as medication administration records and automated drug cabinet usage reports. 
- Participate in community education programs to provide medication information. 
- Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards. Complete required education annually. Contribute to quality improvement initiatives as requested. 
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. 
Qualifications 
Minimum Education: None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority. Doctor of Pharmacy preferred. Completion of PGY2 residency in Medication-Use Safety and Policy (or related field) preferred. 
Minimum Experience: None. Minimum of 3 years of experience in a clinical or hospital pharmacy setting, with a focus on medication safety (if not PGY2 residency trained in Medication-Use Safety and Policy) preferred. Strong knowledge of medication use systems, regulatory standards, and risk management principles preferred. Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills preferred. 
Licensure Requirements: Current TN pharmacist license.
