PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The job purpose of a bladesmith is to craft high-quality blades, using traditional or modern techniques. Bladesmiths are skilled artisans who work with various materials such as steel, iron, and other alloys to forge, shape, heat-treat, and finish blades to meet the specific requirements and preferences of their clients or customers. They may also be involved in designing and customizing blades, as well as repairing and maintaining them. Overall, the primary goal of a bladesmith is to produce functional, durable, and aesthetically pleasing blades for various purposes, including culinary, decorative, or martial arts applications. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 7 years Experience Experience in leather work highly regarded Must be fluent in English Certificates in metalworking, blacksmithing, or related fields highly regarded Ability to work in a team JOB DESCRIPTION Craft high-quality blades such as knives, swords, and other bladed weapons using traditional or modern techniques. Work with various materials including steel, iron, and alloys to forge, shape, heat-treat, and finish blades according to specifications. Design and customize blades to meet the specific requirements and preferences of clients or customers. Repair and maintain blades, including sharpening, re-profiling, and restoring damaged or worn blades to their original condition. Use specialized tools and equipment such as anvils, hammers, forges, grinders, and heat-treating furnaces to fabricate and finish blades. Apply knowledge of metallurgy, heat treatment, and blade geometry to produce blades with optimal performance, durability, and aesthetic appeal Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines when working with hot metal and operating machinery to prevent accidents and injuries. Continuously refine and develop skills through practice, experimentation, and ongoing education in the field of blade smithing. Collaborate with Supervisor, designers, and other craftsmen to ensure that finished blades meet desired specifications and standards Maintain a clean and organized workspace, including proper storage and maintenance of tools, equipment, and materials.
