The Director will provide strategic vision and drive interdisciplinary research that improves health outcomes, reduces inequities, and informs policy and practice nationally and internationally. This role involves building strong partnerships with government, industry, Indigenous communities, and health services, while fostering collaboration across Deakin, including with NIKERI and other research institutes.
The successful candidate will mentor researchers, cultivate a high-performance and inclusive culture, and secure diverse funding streams to ensure the Institute’s growth and sustainability. As a key ambassador for IHT, the Director will enhance its global reputation through active engagement and dissemination of research outcomes. Reporting to the Executive Dean and working closely with the Deputy Vice Chancellor Research and Innovation, the Director will also contribute to the broader strategic success of Deakin’s health research agenda.
To be successful, you’ll have:
- PhD in a relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated success as an eminent authority at the national and international level in research and scholarship through high quality publications, and exhibitions as relevant to the discipline.
- A distinguished record of research leadership and achievement in health or related fields, at a level commensurate with appointment as a Professor.
- Evidence of leading interdisciplinary, high-impact research programs, including a strong publication record and successful track record in securing external funding to support their salary and that of research teams.
- Proven experience in building and sustaining strong collaborations with government, health services, industry, and communities, including Indigenous communities and organisations.
- Ability to set and deliver on strategic priorities, anticipate future directions in health research, and position the Institute as a national and international leader.
- Demonstrated commitment to mentoring, staff development, equity, diversity, and inclusion, with the ability to inspire and develop the next generation of health researchers.
- Strong capacity to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, advocate for research impact, and influence policy and practice.
