About the Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for a Waste & Natural Resources Manager to join a progressive Local Government team in Forbes. This is a permanent leadership role focused on driving sustainable environmental outcomes across the region.
In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic initiatives in waste management, recycling, pollution control, and natural resource conservation. You'll oversee key facilities and contracts, ensuring compliance with environmental legislation while fostering innovation and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development and execution of environmental strategies and waste reduction programs.
* Manage operations at Daroobalgie Waste Depot and rural landfill sites.
* Oversee kerbside waste collection and recycling contracts.
* Develop and manage contracts for future waste and environmental services.
* Coordinate pollution control, recycling, and renewable energy initiatives.
* Build and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, regional councils, and community stakeholders.
* Promote environmental awareness across Council and within the community.
* Conduct environmental audits, impact assessments, and prepare compliance documentation.
* Identify and apply for grants to support sustainability initiatives.
* Represent Council at Netwaste and other interagency forums
What We're Looking For
To thrive in this role, you'll bring a strong foundation in environmental management along with proven leadership capabilities. Ideally, you'll have:
* A degree in Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a closely related field.
* A current Class C Driver's Licence (essential).
* Solid understanding of environmental legislation, compliance frameworks, and policy development.
* At least five years' experience in waste management or environmental services (highly regarded).
* Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage external contractors effectively.
* A track record of successfully delivering complex projects with tangible outcomes.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders, manage conflict, and foster collaboration.
