About you
As an Assistant State Inspector, you will manage complex, high risk and high profile matters, contribute to prevention initiatives and represent SafeWork NSW as a trusted regulatory authority. You'll bring strong regulatory experience, sound judgement and the confidence to operate autonomously across diverse industries and environments.
In addition to the technical skills required, you will bring:
* Advanced investigative and analytical capability, leading complex inspections, investigations and audits, assessing risk and making defensible, evidence based regulatory decisions.
* Clear, authoritative and adaptable communication, translating legislative and technical requirements into practical guidance for diverse audiences.
* Resilience, judgement and courage, responding professionally to serious incidents, fatalities and high profile matters.
* Strong stakeholder influence, building credibility with industry, workers, unions and government partners to drive compliance and improve safety outcomes.
* Integrity and accountability, consistently upholding regulatory standards and public sector values.
* A collaborative, capability building mindset, mentoring others and contributing to continuous improvement.
To be successful as a SafeWork NSW Assistant State Inspector, you must:
* Successfully complete all mandatory preemployment checks, including a medical assessment to confirm capacity to meet the physical and psychological requirements of the role.
* Hold and maintain a valid driver's licence along with a satisfactory driving record.
* Commit to complete the 12-month New Inspector Training Program (NITP) for the awarding of the Diploma in Government (Workplace Inspection), delivered by SafeWork NSW's Registered Training Organisation. This includes induction, classroom and online learning, assessments, and extensive field-based training with regular travel across the Sydney metropolitan area.
* Proceed to complete the required units of the Advanced Diploma of Government (Workplace Inspection) following the attainment of the Diploma in Government (Workplace Inspection).
* Meet all essential requirements detailed in the Role Description and comply with mandatory pre-employment screening in line with SafeWork NSW policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.
