Consultant/Specialist – Geriatric Medicine
Tasmania | Salary package up to $500k
You can be a Geriatrician anywhere.

But not everywhere feels like this.
Most roles will offer you a job. This one offer's something harder to find, connection, purpose, and a pace of work that actually feels sustainable.

If you've ever thought about doing meaningful medicine in a place where your contribution genuinely matters, this is worth a look.
Why Tasmania
This isn't just a lifestyle pitch, it's a different way of living and working.

* Short commutes, more time back in your day
* A genuine sense of community, professionally and personally
* Easy access to nature, food, and culture
* A capital city that still feels human in scale

You finish work and have the energy to enjoy where you live.

Why this role stands out
You'll be based at Tasmania's largest hospital and major referral centre, working closely with the University of Tasmania.

You'll practise real, holistic medicine
Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment isn't rushed here. You'll have the time, support, and team to do the job properly.

A department that functions well
Join a stable, collegial group of 18 geriatricians with strong registrar and junior support. This is a team people stay in.

Breadth without chaos
Acute, subacute (GEM), orthogeriatrics, outpatient clinics, and outreach. You'll have variety, without the fragmentation of larger metro systems.

You can shape the future
There's a clear vision for service development, including an Older Person's ED model. Your input will matter.

The role

* Staff Specialist in Geriatric Medicine
* Work across acute, subacute (GEM), and outpatient services
* Involvement in orthogeriatrics and consultative care
* Opportunities in teaching, research, and service development
* Flexible full-time or part-time options

You'll be based at Tasmania's largest hospital and major referral centre, working closely with the University of Tasmania.

What you'll get

* Base salary from ~$216K to $310K+ (depending on seniority)
* Additional 35% private practice allowance (or equivalent)
* CPD support ~$16K annually
* Vehicle allowance ~$28K
* Relocation support up to $25K + accommodation
* Salary packaging + additional benefits
* Visa sponsorship and family support (for international candidates)

Who this suits

* Specialist Geriatricians looking for meaningful, team-based work
* Consultants wanting more balance without losing clinical depth
* IMGs on a specialist pathway or with comparable experience

You don't need to be actively looking. Most people we place weren't.
They were just open to something better.
