Reporting to a Director, you will manage a small team to deliver short and long-term integrated communication strategies and provide high quality communication advice. Through the development of innovative, high-quality content, you will connect audiences with policies, highlight amazing work, drive audiences to Department channels for information, and engage stakeholders with purpose.
This is initially a 12 month non-ongoing contract, with S26 transfers a possibility. Central Canberra location, with flexibility to work from home 2 days per week.

**Key duties in this diverse role will include**:
- Manage and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including liaising closely with program and policy areas to understand and anticipate their strategic communication needs, and working across the Communication Branch to facilitate outcomes
- Develop and implement integrated communication strategies that reflect policy/program objectives and recognise and respond to audience communication needs and preferences
- Develop and deliver engaging content in digital and traditional formats, which may be used in promotional materials, case studies, e-newsletters, web or intranet content, and social media
- Provide evidence-based expert communication advice to support the department's programs and objectives (including formal briefings)
- Measure the performance of communication activities and develop recommendations to drive community engagement and continually enhance their quality and effectiveness.
- Manage small scale advertising and research projects and procurement and contracts for specialist communication services
- Manage and mentor a small team
- Contribute to the direction, leadership and culture of the Communication Branch.
**Skills and Experience required**:
- Significant relevant experience developing and implementing communications strategies within the public sector
- A degree in communications or related discipline or equivalent experience
- Strong ability to manage and motivate a team of communications professionals
- Sound judgement including demonstrated ability to provide advice on communication approaches to senior internal stakeholders
- Ability to build good relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong oral and written communication skills and a track record in producing high quality materials for publication
- Australian Citizenship and ability to obtain a Baseline security clearance
