About the area

Minderoo OceanOmics Centre at UWA is a world-class research facility established through a collaboration between The University of Western Australia and Minderoo Foundation. Located in the Bayliss Building on UWA's Crawley Campus, the Centre uses ground-breaking genomics-based research to characterise marine biodiversity. Focusing on Australia's native marine vertebrates and regional marine ecosystems, we integrate advanced genomics infrastructure, specialist expertise, and strong cooperative networks to generate large-scale Environmental DNA (eDNA) and whole-genome sequencing datasets. Our work establishes a genomics-enabled foundation for biodiversity discovery, ecological understanding, informed conservation-management and the development of innovative biomonitoring solutions.

About the opportunity
- Support day-to-day operations of the OceanOmics Centre, including eDNA and genomics laboratory workflows.
- Collaborate with researchers, academic and professional staff to develop and optimise protocols and ensure high-quality data production.
- Contribute to the development of open-access repositories of marine vertebrate reference genomes and broad-scale marine eDNA datasets.

About you
- Tertiary qualification in science (e.g., genetics, genomics, molecular biology) or equivalent experience.
- Skilled in DNA extraction, sequencing library preparation, and use of molecular biology instrumentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Experience training others in laboratory procedures and maintaining accurate records.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role.
- Availability for occasional after-hours work and travel.
