We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Payroll Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will manage all aspects of payroll processing, ensure compliance with relevant laws, and deliver exceptional service to our clients.
Opportunity
Become a part of our dynamic, supportive, and well-established team as a Senior Payroll Officer. In this exciting role, you will oversee crucial payroll activities for multiple businesses and provide essential support to our team.
You will also handle HR administrative tasks, such as preparing contracts, on-boarding new employees, managing traineeships, and handling changes to employment conditions and terminations. Additionally, you will advise on and resolve complex payroll transactions, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
About you
You have a passion for payroll and several years of experience as a Payroll Officer. You are well-organised, proactive, and naturally flexible and adaptable. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy teamwork and continuous learning.
What you'll be doing day‑to‑day
* Process payroll for multiple businesses.
* Prepare and distribute payroll reports to management.
* Prepare and submit end‑of‑month payments, including PAYGW, Superannuation, Payroll Tax, etc.
* Manage employee entitlements, including annual leave, sick leave and long service leave.
* Handle payroll inquiries and resolve any discrepancies.
* Maintain accurate employee records, including personal information, employment details and payroll deductions.
* Validate and reconcile payroll data to ensure accuracy.
* Respond to employee payroll queries in a timely and professional manner.
* Identify opportunities for improvement.
* Assist with payroll audits and reconciliations.
* Stay updated on changes in payroll laws and regulations.
* Assist with other HR projects and initiatives as required.
* Ensure compliance with Australian taxation laws, superannuation regulations, and other legislative requirements.
* Ensure accurate and timely submission of payroll taxes and other deductions.
What you'll bring to this role
* Experience in a similar Payroll Officer role with comprehensive payroll knowledge.
* Understanding of current payroll legislation and processes, and ability to source up‑to‑date information.
* Experience processing payroll for multiple industries and awards.
* High attention to detail and accuracy, with excellent organisational skills to prioritise urgent tasks.
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
* A desire to learn and have strong problem‑solving skills.
* Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
* Knowledge of award interpretation.
Qualifications
* Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is acceptable for candidates with extensive payroll experience.
* 5 years of payroll experience.
* Experience with multiple payroll software systems including Xero, Deputy, Tanda, and MYOB.
* Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
* Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Australian work rights are required for this position.
