About us 
Knoxbrooke is a non-for-profit organisation providing a range of employment, education and support services designed to meet the specific needs of people with a disability. Operating within the Outer Eastern and West Gippsland Regions of Melbourne, our services aim to enhance independence and maximise quality of life. Knoxbrooke receives funding from the Federal Government with the balance of income generated from fees, business services revenue and fundraising. 
The Opportunity 
Due to demand we are increasing our team of compassionate and dedicated Disability Support Workers working in Knoxbrooke's Living, Learning + Leisure offering in the West Gippsland Region. This program offers flexible, and person-centred programs for individuals and groups in the local West Gippsland Community. 
Our Disability Support Workers are responsible for meeting the needs and support requirements of participants with disabilities in accordance with their individual developmental goals. The role provides support, capacity building and community participation through the development and implementation of tailored, high-quality group and/or 1:1 activity options. 
This can look like: 
- Transporting clients to and from home to a central meeting point for community activities 
- Assisting clients with personal care while encouraging them to do as much as they can themselves 
- Accompanying groups of clients on community activities 
- Following care and behaviour support plans and collaborating with healthcare professionals and family members to ensure the best possible care for clients 
- Maintaining accurate records and documentation 
- Working both in a team with other Disability Support Workers and 1:1 with clients 
Skills and Qualifications 
- Qualifications (completed or currently studying) in disability or other relevant field of study 
- Experience working in disability 
- Current Level 2 First Aid Certificate and CPR 
- High level interpersonal and rapport building skills 
- Solid communication skills and the ability to adapt your communication style to suit people's needs 
- Ability to work independently and also as part of a team 
- A compassionate, kind and patient demeanour 
- The ability to remain calm and think on your feet and de-escalate heightened behaviour 
- Knowledge of disability rights and the ability to advocate for clients and support clients in self-advocacy 
- Victorian driver's licence and own fully insured car 
- Confident to drive a 12 seater mini bus (preferred) 
- The ability to work casual shifts rostered between Monday and Friday. Hours are usually rostered between 7.30am - 4pm.
