About the Role We are seeking two experienced Research Associates to support urgent applied research activities within a Centre of Excellence environment.
These short‑term roles will focus on delivering rapid literature reviews and preparing information papers to support the development of Applied Research Grants, scheduled to go live in July 2026.
Working closely with a Research Sub‑Committee (or equivalent), you will contribute to high‑quality academic and applied research across vocational education, industry, and workforce development priorities.
Key Responsibilities
* Facilitate high‑quality academic and applied research by developing, project managing, and/or contributing to major applied research projects identified by the Research Sub‑Committee
* Initiate developments in specified applied research fields and contribute to evolving applied research directions and priorities
* Support applied research interests and strengths by assisting in the design of research programs and methodologies aligned to available funding
* Develop and manage strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including national education networks, centres of excellence, job skills councils, industry bodies, unions, community stakeholders, students, and staff
* Contribute to applied research practice through the design, conduct, implementation, and reporting of research activities, including publications and information papers
* Ensure all research activities comply with relevant legislation, policies, procedures, and research ethics requirements
* Undertake project work as delegated by the Executive Director (or equivalent)
* Contribute to organisational transformation and cultural change by modelling values such as Safety First, Working Together, Focusing on our Customer, Taking Responsibility, and Showing Initiative
How You Will Be Assessed The ideal applicant will demonstrate:
* Experience in developing and managing applied research projects through to completion
* High‑level academic capability, including literature reviews, research proposal development, and dissemination of findings
* Flexibility and responsiveness in a fast‑paced, changing environment, with strong time‑management skills
* Highly developed written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including stakeholder engagement and consultation
* Ability to source, analyse, and present information in both written and visual formats in line with research protocols
* Demonstrated understanding of the vocational training and higher education environments
* Research project management experience, including planning, delivery, monitoring, and reporting
Mandatory / Highly Desirable Experience
* Experience in a research‑related role, or
* Minimum research qualifications, such as:
o PhD
o Master by Research
o Honours degree with delivery of a research thesis
Additional Information
* The team is geographically distributed across multiple Queensland locations
* The role may be based at any suitable campus, subject to operational requirements
* Initial commencement will be on campus to support onboarding, system access, and equipment setup.
