Defence Housing Australia (DHA) is a Commonwealth statutory authority that provides housing and related services to members of the Australian Defence Force and their families across the country.

Operating within a commercial framework while delivering a critical public purpose, DHA supports Defence capability through high‑quality, well‑managed housing solutions.

The Australian Government is seeking expressions of interest for two non‑executive Commercial Member positions on the DHA Board, commencing in early 2027.

The Board is particularly interested in candidates with demonstrated experience serving on a government or comparable board, statutory authority, or large‑scale organisation, and who can contribute strong governance, risk oversight, and commercial decision‑making in a complex operating environment.

Desired Industry Experience

Candidates should have proven non‑executive director experience in at least one of the following areas:

* Accounting / Finance

Senior expertise in financial management, audit, investment, or corporate finance, with the capability to oversee budgets, financial performance, and risk.

* Law / Governance

Legal qualifications or extensive experience in corporate governance, regulatory compliance, contracting, or public sector accountability frameworks.

* Digital Transformation

Experience guiding technology strategy, cyber security, data governance, or large‑scale digital programs.

* Community Housing / Property / Infrastructure

Background in social or community housing, residential property, sustainability, asset management, or infrastructure delivery.

* Governance / Public Sector

Prior service on a government board, advisory body, or senior executive role within government, preferably within a commercial or service‑delivery agency.

Core Competencies

Candidates should also demonstrate strength in most of the following:

* honesty and integrity
* political awareness
* innovation and implementation
* sound judgement and balanced risk engagement
* commitment to action and delivery of outcomes

Application Process

Applications must be submitted via www.dha.gov.au/boardrecruitment by 5.00pm AEST Monday, 4 May 2026 and include:

* a current CV
* a statement of up to 500 words outlining your relevant experience and capabilities

Appointments will be made in accordance with applicable government guidelines. All candidates must satisfy probity, security, and conflict‑of‑interest requirements for Board Members of a Commonwealth entity.
