Media Exchange is proudly an independent, Australian‐owned and locally operated digital marketing agency located in South Melbourne. We have been operating for 6 years, and we are currently going through an exciting growth phase as we have expanded our service offering across various media channels. We are looking for a specialist writing professional to help fuel the next stage of our growth.
The Role
The SEO Copy and Content Writer is responsible for making every word that exists on our clients' websites, social media and advertising efforts capture audience attention and deliver results. They are an integral member of the Media Exchange team, working closely with others to develop successful marketing plans and build positive relationships with clients.
You will act as a mid‐senior level Content Producer across the business for all written content. The primary function of this role is to own the Content Strategy across our client portfolio as part of the SEO team, with a focus on writing, editing and optimising written content for websites, including landing pages, category pages and blog articles. This includes collaborating closely with our Head of SEO to find opportunities to improve search visibility and performance, and to regularly analyse and review performance data metrics.
Outside of this primary function, the role will also include copywriting for social media management in collaboration with members of the social media and design teams, and development of scripts and advertising copy for paid digital media and traditional media ad campaigns.
Key Responsibilities
SEO Content Writing
Working within the SEO team, you will be responsible for reviewing, re‐writing, optimising and continually updating website content to improve rankings in search. This includes writing for landing pages, category and subcategory pages, blog articles, and any other pieces of content that could be used to improve a website's position in search.
* Keyword research for relevant categories to identify content writing opportunities, as well as opportunities to improve search ranking positions.
* Editing of clients' existing website content with a focus on improving grammar, syntax, readability, and ranking potential, and (where applicable) rewriting content with an SEO focus.
* Publishing and updating content across websites and platforms.
* Tracking the performance of content pieces and keywords to continually optimise websites and ensure the best possible results for clients.
* Participating in weekly SEO team meetings to discuss ongoing work and make appropriate plans for tasks to come, as well as monthly meetings with SEO clients to present and discuss results with them and any work they would like to see completed.
* Developing plans and proposals as part of client pitch meetings to win new business.
* Updating and working on the Media Exchange website with new content, page optimisations and performance tracking.
Paid Advertising Campaign Writing
Working with members of our Digital Performance and Design teams, you will play a key role in developing copy for paid advertising campaigns, particularly social media advertising.
* Generating headlines, creative text, captions and other written copy for paid advertising campaigns.
* Collaborating with other team members to create a cohesive campaign vision and ensure final delivery matches the objectives of our clients.
* Communicating with clients and actioning their feedback.
* Awareness of performance and contribution in monthly review meetings.
Organic Social Media Management
Collaborating with our design and social media teams, you will be responsible for writing creative and brand‐appropriate captions for various clients who use our social media management services.
* Writing post captions for several clients across a variety of social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and more.
* Using one or a combination of multiple social media management and scheduling tools.
* Developing monthly content ideas for upcoming social media content to help the design team develop images or graphics.
* Monthly reviewing of social media performance on key metrics like Followers, Engagement, Reach and others, and discussing these key performance metrics with clients in monthly review meetings.
* Monitoring social media trends and keeping up with best practice for different platforms, to ensure Media Exchange continues to deliver content in accordance with those standards.
Traditional Media (Radio/TV/Outdoor) Copywriting
In support of the Director and future Account Managers, you will play a role in developing any necessary scripts for Radio, TV, Outdoor & Video advertising. This may include liaising with creative studios, actors or voice over talent, traditional media outlets and clients to develop the perfect, brand‐appropriate copy and ensure it is executed precisely across all channels.
Ad Hoc Responsibilities
* Helping the Director come up with "another word for [INSERT]".
* Acting as the office's living, breathing dictionary.
* Making the team laugh with hilariously bad caption ideas and unique word‐related humour.
* Laughing at the Director's overflowing stream of puns (essential).
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a capable and enthusiastic writer with a passion for words and delivering exceptional client results. The ideal candidate will comfortably work with our wider team and collaborate on all marketing efforts where required. Working in a fast‐growing independent marketing agency, this role is suited to an individual looking to generate high‐quality work, grow with the agency and develop into a well‐rounded marketing and communications professional.
Our ideal candidate possesses:
* Minimum 3 years (ideally 3‐5 years or more) of proven experience in SEO copywriting.
* A university degree or higher education qualification, preferably in marketing and/or media publishing/communications.
* High‐level English proficiency – excellent grammar, spelling, and attention to detail are a must.
* Experience with email marketing platforms (ActiveCampaign, Mailchimp, Zoho or similar).
* Familiarity with website content management and publishing through WordPress.
* Exceptional creativity and an enthusiasm for developing unique, innovative writing.
* The ability to tailor their writing to different clients and their tone of voice, and that of their overall category.
* A commitment to being detail‐oriented and organised, with an ability to manage deadlines and weekly workloads.
* Ambition and humility; a willingness and desire to improve their work and help the business grow, while remaining teachable and fair to all.
* Teamwork and comfort collaborating within team environments.
* Proficiency across the Google Workspace, Microsoft Office suite of programs, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
