Senior Commissioning Engineer Role Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to lead the commissioning function across complex high-voltage installations, managing FAT and SAT activities, technical interface coordination, and ensuring that commissioning outcomes meet safety, quality, and client expectations.
You will be responsible for coordinating and performing FAT and SAT processes to verify system integrity and functionality, preparing and executing commissioning plans, test procedures, and completion documentation.
Collaboration with engineering, construction, and client stakeholders is crucial in this role. You will also support system integration and troubleshoot issues across IEC 61850 digital substations, maintaining accurate test records, defect lists, and status reports. Acting as a technical mentor within the commissioning team and supporting junior engineers are key responsibilities of this position.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead commissioning activities across primary and secondary systems, including EHV infrastructure.
* Coordinate and perform FAT and SAT processes to verify system integrity and functionality.
* Prepare and execute commissioning plans, test procedures, and completion documentation.
* Collaborate closely with engineering, construction, and client stakeholders.
* Support system integration and troubleshoot issues across IEC 61850 digital substations.
* Maintain accurate test records, defect lists, and status reports.
* Act as a technical mentor within the commissioning team and support junior engineers.
Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
* Extensive commissioning experience in transmission/substation environments.
* Strong working knowledge of protection systems, SCADA, and IEC 61850 protocols.
* Demonstrated experience in brownfield integration and HV energisation processes.
* High attention to safety and compliance with WHS and environmental protocols.
* Able to work autonomously and under pressure in field-based conditions.
* White Card, C-Class Driver's License, and National Police Clearance (or ability to obtain).
Desirable Qualifications:
* Experience with EHV.
* Experience with GIS.
* Exposure to GOOSE and Sampled Values in digital substations.
* Prior experience on utility-scale transmission projects or major infrastructure rollouts.
* Familiarity with AutoCAD, Microstation, or similar design platforms.
