Public Health Services (PHS) works to improve and protect the health and wellbeing of all Tasmanians by engaging with individuals, groups and communities Statewide and Nationally. The Radiation Protection Unit (RPU) within PHS is responsible for the administration of the Radiation Protection Act in Tasmania to protect people and the environment from the harmful effects of radiation. This is achieved through licensing, registration and a broad range of compliance and education activities.
The Role
The purpose of this position is to assist in the administration of the Radiation Protection Act, Regulations and associated policies, procedures and guidelines, carry out regulatory inspections and compliance activities, and the development of innovative regulatory management solutions. The role will also:
Conduct regulatory aspects of radiation protection as an Authorised Officer under the Radiation Protection Act ****.
Carry out projects and inspections under the Radiation Protection Act ****.
Assist the RPU with the day-to-day administration of the Radiation Protection Act ****, including preparation of authorities for issue and conduction of inspections to ensure that requirements of licence conditions and the Act are being met.
Assist the licensing and project officer with licensing and administrative duties as required from time to time.
Calibrate instruments and perform other health physics tasks as part of services offered to licence holders.
You Will Need
Tertiary qualification in Medical Physics or Health Physics or physics or a related discipline.
Knowledge of radiation protection legislation applicable to the control and regulation of radiation sources in Tasmania.
High degree of analytical, conceptual, and communication skills, including the ability to provide technical advice to senior managers.

Details Of Appointment
Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. Hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary
$73,834 to $111,364 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount. Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No. 2 of ****.
Allowances
Professional Development Allowance of up to $**** per annum.

Eligibility
Satisfactory completion of an approved tertiary qualification in Medical Physics or Health Physics or Physics or a related discipline.
Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee's responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.
