About the Opportunity
YYNAC is seeking a detail orientated and motivated indivijual with horticultural experience to join our team in Barmah, on a 320 hectare farm. As the Leading Hand, you will support the farm manager in the day to day operations necessary for optimal plant growth. This includes assisting with irrigation scheduelling, data collection, spraying, and supervising the farm hand team to ensure productivity and effiency on the farm.
Reporting to the Farm Manager, some of your key accountabilities will include:
* Supporting the Farm Manager in gathering and analysing farm data to ensure optimal growth cycle of plants.
* Leading and supervising the farm hand team to maintain efficient farm operations and resolve issues.
* Supporting the Farm Manager in scheduling and applying irrigation and fertilizer, while maintaining irrigation infrastructure.
* Helping establish new plantations.
* Identifying and address pest and disease issues promptly, collaborating with the Farm Manager.
* Operating tractors and other farm machinery for tasks such as fencing, road works maintenance, repair of plant, and pesticide application.
* Performing routine maintenance on equipment to ensure functionality.
* Contributing to the cleanliness and organization of farm infrastructure.
* Contributing to the preparation and implementation of work programs.
* Assisting apprentices, cadets, work experience students and temporary staff with the co-ordination and application of team resources to achieve work goals.
* Operating and maintain maintenance equipment and machinery in accordance with Farm Management requirements and manufacturer's instructions.
* Undertaking all work in a safe, responsible manner using the correct safety equipment and practices to comply with relevant OHS legislation and YYNAC policies.
About You
* Certificate III or above in Agriculture/Horticulture, or commensurate experience
* Chemical Accreditation AQF 3 or ability to obtain
* Proficient in operating tractors and front-end loaders (essential)
* Proficient in use of farm equipment such as sprayers, mowers, slashers etc. (essential)
* Strong physical fitness and endurance for outdoor work in varying weather conditions
* Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team
* Current Drivers Licence (essential)
* A MR or HR licence would be advantageous
Desirable:
* Chainsaw Operations Certificate
* First Aid Level 1
