Mary MacKillop Childcare North Queensland is dedicated to delivering exceptional care to families across the Diocese of Townsville, spanning from Ingham in the North to Proserpine in the South, Mount Isa in the West, and Palm Island to the East. We have grown to include 5 Early Learning Centres, 9 Kindergartens and 14 Outside School Hours Care centres.
About the position
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to support the financial operations of Mary MacKillop Childcare North Queensland (MMCNQ). This role ensures the accurate recording and management of day-to-day financial transactions while maintaining compliance with internal accounting policies. You will also contribute to month-end processes, reporting, accounts payable and receivable, and payroll oversight.
Reporting directly to the Finance and Business Manager, you will work closely with senior leadership and service leaders to ensure financial and administrative processes are delivered efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with statutory and organisational requirements. Key duties include, but not limited to:
* Managing day-to-day financial transactions and assisting with accounts payable and receivable, and month-end processes and reconciliations.
* Supporting the preparation, analysis, and reporting of financial statements, budgets, and cash flow projections.
* Providing payroll oversight, including review of Xplor Timesheet data and reconciliation to ensure compliance with award and statutory obligations.
* Delivering financial and administrative support to the Business Manager, senior leadership, and service teams, and identifying opportunities for process improvement.
* Maintaining professional and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders while ensuring confidentiality and adherence to organisational policies.
What you'll need to succeed:
* Degree qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline
* Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role within a medium-sized organisation
* Proven ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team
* High proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office applications
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret financial data
* Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
* Paid Working With Children Check (Blue Card) or willingness to obtain
* National Criminal History Check
