Responsibilities

A highly regarded financial services organisation based in Tullamarine, VIC is seeking a strategic and commercially‑minded Senior Legal Counse l. This role provides expert legal support across Australia, New Zealand, and the APAC region, advising senior leadership and partnering with internal teams to manage complex transactions, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in assessing legal risk, guiding business decisions, and supporting the organisation’s strategic objectives.


Key Responsibilities

* Provide legal advice and support across corporate, commercial, and structured finance transactions.
* Draft, review, and negotiate complex agreements, including financing, leasing, security, and corporate contracts.
* Advise senior management on regulatory compliance, litigation matters, and strategic business initiatives.
* Oversee corporate governance frameworks, ensuring alignment with legal and regulatory requirements.
* Manage disputes and litigation, engaging external counsel when required and guiding internal stakeholders on outcomes.
* Collaborate with regional and global legal teams to ensure consistent, high‑quality legal support.
* Support new business initiatives and product development, ensuring risk mitigation and compliance.
* Implement and execute legal strategies aligned with business priorities, identifying opportunities to improve processes and efficiencies.
* Coach and guide internal teams on legal and regulatory matters, policy interpretation, and decision‑making frameworks.
* Monitor emerging legal and regulatory developments and proactively advise on potential impacts.


Your Profile

The ideal candidate for the Senior Corporate Counsel position will have a strong background in corporate or commercial law, with experience providing legal advice across complex transactions and regulatory matters.

* Essential: 8–10 years of legal experience, including 3–5 years within financial services, captive finance, or a related industry. Demonstrated expertise in corporate governance, regulatory compliance, litigation, and commercial transactions. Australian Legal Practising Certificate required.
* Ideal: Experience providing legal support across multiple jurisdictions (Australia, New Zealand, APAC) and managing cross‑border transactions. Advanced drafting, negotiation, and risk management skills. Master of Laws (LL.M.) is a plus.
* Desired Attributes: A strategic and commercially‑minded legal professional with excellent judgment, strong stakeholder management skills, and the ability to influence and advise senior leadership. Highly organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple complex matters independently while maintaining attention to detail and delivering high‑quality outcomes.
