Drive asset accounting for one of Australia’s largest and most complex asset portfolios in a 12‑month APS5/6 role based in Melbourne.

Our client is responsible for managing some of the most complex and high-profile assets in the Commonwealth, from major infrastructure and property portfolios to specialist equipment and multi-year capital programs.
Working within a high-performing Finance function, you will join a team that delivers critical financial reporting, compliance assurance and policy advice across a vast and complex asset base. The work is technically challenging, commercially significant and directly supports the nation.
The Opportunity
This is an initial 12-month, non-ongoing contract with the possibility of extension, providing an opportunity to apply your technical accounting expertise at scale.
As an APS5 or APS6 Asset Accounting and Reporting Officer, you will operate with autonomy and influence, working on complex asset lifecycle issues and financial reporting matters that genuinely matter.

The Role
Operating under broad direction, you will be accountable for delivering complex asset accounting and reporting outcomes within an integrated workforce.
Key responsibilities include:
* Deliver asset lifecycle management and financial reporting activities
* Coordinate monthly and annual asset reporting requirements
* Provide technical asset accounting advice to business units
* Contribute to asset policy, procedure and systems development
* Analyse financial data and prepare high-quality reporting
* Ensure compliance with Commonwealth financial frameworks
* Resolve complex asset management issues in collaboration with stakeholders
* Manage workflows, set priorities and support team capability
At the APS6 level, you may also lead or coach team members, allocate work, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the work unit.
The Ideal Person
You are most likely a current APS5 or APS6 level Accountant in government, or an equivalent professional working in a Big 4 firm or large and complex organisation, looking to apply your technical expertise in a complex public sector environment.
You bring:
* A CA or CPA qualification (or are actively working towards it)
* A minimum of 3+ years’ experience in financial statements preparation and reporting
* Strong financial accounting capability with exposure to compliance frameworks
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial matters to non-financial stakeholders
* The ability to balance technical depth with stakeholder engagement
Having an existing Baseline security clearance will be highly regarded.
You are confident working both independently and as part of a team, and you understand that strong communication and collaboration are just as important as technical skill.

Salary / Rate
* APS5: $86k – $93k + 15.4% Super
* APS6: $95k – $108k + 15.4% Super
