Gilmour Defence is a sovereign Australian company, established in 2023 to deliver Australian-owned solutions for Defence. We design, manufacture, and test solid rocket motors to support the needs of Australia's Defence Force and allies. We're building our team and on the hunt for a Chemical Engineer I.

How will you contribute?
The below is designed to give you an idea of the role you will play. There will be many more exciting and innovative things to do.
* Establish plant and process to produce materials required for R&D and launch activities, such as, Energetics, Polymers and Ablative Materials whilst adhering to safety legislation and local regulation.
* Manage and optimise cleaning processes of hardware and equipment for use with energetics.
* Experiment with and create solid rocket motors
* Maintain proper documentation of all designs, drawings and test plans
* Work on research and development on a small number of solid rocket motor ingredients
* Work with a group of cross discipline engineers on other non-fuel components of the motors
* Conduct and review solid rocket motor engine tests and produce test reports.
* Support external suppliers, where required, to improve quality and supply assurances.
* Working with design and manufacturing engineers to develop and optimise production processes.
* Ongoing technical support of plant and process.
* Any other duties as requested.
Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Experience
* Bachelor's (B.S.) degree in Chemistry, Process or Chemical Engineering
* Experience with polymers
* Working experience in a processing facility, ideally handling dangerous goods and/or energetics
* Working experience with relevant Australian Standards (AS4326, AS2187)
* Ability to obtain NV1 Security Clearance
Desired Qualifications, Skills and Experience
* Experience working with, and formulating, energetic materials
* Experience with CAD and an understanding of mechanical design
* Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ)
* Ability to rapidly change goals while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
