Location
Geraldton, WA – a regional city of 41,000 residents located 450 km north of Perth, with a Mediterranean climate, excellent schools, a vibrant sporting community and all the amenities of a regional city centre.
The role is based in DBCA's Murchison District. The district covers over 20 million hectares and includes coastal, rangeland and marine landscapes, with the Houtman Abrolhos Islands National Park offshore.
About the Role
The position provides oversight to a professional team of joint management officers and is supported by the Operations Manager. Under limited or minimal direction of the District Manager, the role:
* Leads and coordinates effective liaison and communication with Traditional Owner groups, other agencies, community groups and special interest groups to promote and implement joint‐management objectives within the Murchison District.
* Integrates district operations into a strategic joint‐management implementation framework.
* Maintains detailed awareness and oversight of all Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUAs), district programmes, budgets and staffing to represent the district manager and other programmes in joint‐management meetings, planning workshops and negotiations.
* Supports the development and implementation of Indigenous Land Use Agreements and joint‐management agreements, and leads the coordination of district input into joint‐management plans.
* Provides support to managers and Traditional Owners on matters relating to the management of conservation lands, Aboriginal heritage sites and the protection of Aboriginal heritage.
Fire management training is part of the role, allowing for both office and field‐based responsibilities.
Team
The role is part of the Murchison District leadership team, which also includes the District Manager, Operations Manager, Conservation Coordinator, Parks and Visitor Services Coordinator, Fire Coordinator, Senior Operations Officer (Abrolhos Islands) and Finance and Administration Officer.
Selection Criteria
* Highly developed oral and interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated experience (Level 5 or 6) negotiating and maintaining relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders to balance competing priorities and coordinate collaborative outcomes.
* Willingness and experience working with Traditional Owners to deliver native title aspirations and goals through joint management, with a substantial awareness of Aboriginal culture and heritage values (Level 6 preferred).
* Understanding of issues involved in managing natural areas for cultural, biodiversity, recreation, education and tourism values in a joint‐management context (Level 5), with a preference for demonstrated experience (Level 6).
* Considerable experience and knowledge of administrative and financial management, including project management, budget preparation and expenditure control.
