Drug & Alcohol Clinical Skills Enhancement Program – Clinical Nurse Specialist (Grade 2)

South Eastern Sydney Local Health District Drug & Alcohol Services is offering temporary CNS (Grade 2) positions (full-time) for nurses to learn and expand their expertise in Hospital Consultation and Liaison.

This project is a unique and exciting initiative aimed at increasing the number of qualified senior nurses across the state and promoting the field of drug and alcohol nursing. The position will work alongside the Hospital Drug & Alcohol Consultation Liaison (HDACL) and/or the Substance Use in Pregnancy & Parenting Service (SUPPS) workforce across the district (Prince of Wales, St George and Sutherland Hospitals).

Please note that successful applicants must be a current NSW Health employee and will be seconded to these positions for a period of 6 months (staring early to mid-November 2025). Please discuss your interest in the program with your manager when applying.

What You'll Be Doing?

This position is part of a team that provides senior nursing leadership and drug and alcohol consultation liaison services to SESLHD health facilities.

This position is expected to demonstrate advanced evidence based drug and alcohol treatment knowledge in the provision of patient care. The Drug and Alcohol Clinical Nurse Specialist provides expert clinical advice to patients, carers and other health care professionals within the Drug and Alcohol specialty. The Drug and Alcohol Clinical Nurse Specialist develops, facilitates, implements and evaluates care management plans for patients with complex health needs.

Selection Criteria

:
* Current registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) with relevant post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years' experience working in the drug and alcohol nursing field, or such other qualifications or equivalent experience deemed appropriate.
* Demonstrated ability to manage complex drug & alcohol clinical care and service delivery issues and problem solve through the development and use of clinical management plans.
* Demonstrated ability to exercise extended autonomy of decision making while working as part of a multidisciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations.
* Demonstrated skills in the development & facilitation of patient and carer education.
* Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.
* Detailed knowledge and understanding of harm minimisation and evidence of leadership in safety and quality innovation.
* Demonstrated competence in the use of health-related information technology.
