As a team member diligently apply a range of support to both routine and specialised histological and cytological procedures to tissue from surgical and autopsy specimens to examine pathological features essential for diagnosis. Perform duties required for sample registration and the preparation of tissue samples for dissection and prepare specimens for appropriate fixation and processing as directed by the Supervising Scientist (or delegate).
Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
Demonstrated ability and initiative to perform basic laboratory duties and ability to acquire skills in Histology and Cytology laboratories including specimen collection, data entry, preparation, macro-photography assistance at tissue dissection and other associated routine laboratory operational activities in s fast paced laboratory environment.
Demonstrated ability and initiative to follow correct procedures for handling biological specimens, and routine specimen preparation, assist in the routine histology laboratory areas and accurately prepare basic chemical solutions.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with both the immediate work team as well as in the wider work environment and to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated initiative and proven ability to work independently at times and to contribute to a high quality, efficient and effective workplace.
Availability to participate in rotational day and evening shift roster including weekends and Public Holidays
