The Minister for Education and Early Childhood (Minister), Ms Yvette Berry MLA, invites applications from eligible and suitably qualified people for appointment to the position of Chair of the ACT Teacher Quality Institute (TQI) Board.

The TQI is the statutory authority established under the ACT Teacher Quality Institute Act 2010 (TQI Act) that is responsible for regulating the teaching profession in the ACT. Its functions include registering teachers and granting permits to teach; maintaining the ACT register of teachers; setting and applying professional and ethical standards; accrediting pre‐service and in‐service teacher education and professional learning programs; and promoting and directing ongoing professional learning and development to build teacher quality and professionalism.

The TQI Board, as a governing board of a Territory Authority under the Financial Management Act 1996, oversees the lawful, strategic and financially responsible governance of the TQI, ensuring effective operations, compliance, and accurate and transparent reporting.

The TQI Board convenes four two-hour meetings per year.

In addition to presiding over Board meetings, the Chair typically attends weekly meetings with the TQI CEO, quarterly meetings with the Education Director-General, four annual meetings with the Minister, and other meetings as required.

The position of Chair is expected to commence on 1 September 2026 for a three-year term.
