* Temporary contract (one-year with potential for renewal depending on funding)
* Full-time hours (35 hours/week) – flexible with part-time if needed
* Based at National Herbarium of NSW – located at Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan
* Hybrid working arrangements are available
* Salary relative to experience and ranges from $75,728 to $116,969 + super

The role

Are you passionate about plant evolution and systematics? In this role, you'll lead the analysis of novel phylogenomic data, collaborating with top scientists to build the NSW Plant Tree of Life and answer big questions about plant groups and floras. You'll coordinate sampling, drive research outcomes, and share your discoveries through publications and presentations. Expect to work closely with internal and external experts, manage project data, and help position the Gardens as a leader in plant phylogenomics.

You'll tackle complex research issues, innovate with large datasets, and stay at the forefront of genomics and bioinformatics. Your work will contribute to conservation, systematics, and the broader scientific community.

Please note: The Mount Annan office is not easily accessible by public transport. You will need to arrange your own transport.

What you will bring to the role

* Experience in phylogenetic reconstruction, ideally using high-throughput sequencing data, and proficiency with coding with R or similar tools.
* Strong knowledge of systematic botany, taxonomy, and herbarium record-keeping.
* Ability to prepare scientific publications and present to diverse audiences.
* Collaborative spirit, clear communication, and a drive for continuous learning.
* Project management skills, resilience, and adaptability in a dynamic research environment.
* A driver's licence is advantageous but not essential.
* Preferably a PhD (or equivalent, such as a master's with experience, postdoc, or currently completing a doctorate).

What is an essential requirement:

* Tertiary qualifications in Biological and/or Botanical Science.
