Tasks & Responsibilities
* Identify and diagnose faults in engines, transmissions, and mechanical components using diagnostic tools and equipment
* Disassemble engine assemblies, transmissions, steering systems, and other key components for inspection and assessment
* Repair or replace worn, damaged, or defective parts and reassemble components using service manuals and technical guides as needed
* Carry out routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, lubrication, and engine tune-ups, to improve performance and meet environmental standards
* Reassemble engines and related components following repairs to manufacturer specifications
* Test and fine-tune mechanical parts and systems after repairs to ensure proper functionality
* Use computerised diagnostic equipment to evaluate performance and identify faults in vehicle systems
* May conduct vehicle inspections for roadworthiness and issue certificates or provide a list of necessary repairs to meet compliance
Qualification & Experience
* Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology (or equivalent trade qualification) – Required
* 1–2 years of hands-on experience working as a motor mechanic in a workshop environment
* Solid understanding of vehicle systems, diagnostics, and repair procedures for petrol and diesel vehicles
* Experience using modern diagnostic tools and equipment
* Familiarity with roadworthy inspection procedures (a bonus but not essential)
* Strong communication skills to interact with team members and customers effectively
* Ability to interpret technical manuals, service bulletins, and schematics
* Current Australian driver's licence (manual preferred)
* Good problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a busy workshop setting
