Rockingham
Department of Education, Western Australia
English Teacher
Posted: 18 June
The role

This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 3, 2026.

Safety Bay Senior High School's motto, Imagine, Believe, Achieve, embodies our deep dedication to nurturing every student's journey. We take pride in cultivating a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students are inspired to dream big, have confidence in their abilities, and strive for excellence.

Safety Bay SHS is entering an important phase of whole-school improvement. We are strengthening our approach to teaching and learning, building greater consistency across classrooms, and aligning our work to clear school priorities.

Staff are supported through weekly collaborative time to plan, review evidence of student learning, and work together on school goals and targets. This collaborative work will continue to develop over the coming years as we refine our curriculum, assessment, instructional practice and intervention structures.

We use a distributive leadership model and value staff contribution to the direction of the school. There are opportunities for teachers to lead and contribute to curriculum development, literacy improvement, moderation, instructional practice and whole-school initiatives.

The Role

We are seeking a committed and reflective English teacher who has a good understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum and is prepared to contribute to the next stage of our school improvement work.

Applicants should be ready to contribute to this direction and support the shared work required to improve student learning, engagement and progress. The successful applicant will ideally be an effective classroom teacher who can build positive relationships with students, create orderly and purposeful learning environments, and use evidence‐informed teaching practices to support student progress.

As a member of the English team, you will teach across Lower School and Senior School, including Foundation, General and Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) English courses where required. The successful applicant will ideally support whole‐school priorities, including literacy improvement, collaborative planning, moderation, and consistent curriculum delivery.

This position would suit an applicant who is committed to strong classroom practice and interested in developing their leadership capacity over time. For applicants with the capacity and interest, there will be opportunities to contribute to leadership work within the learning area and across the school as our improvement agenda develops.

Applicants should be prepared to work within shared school processes and support the implementation of our strategic plan. This includes contributing to collaborative planning, using data to inform teaching, engaging in reflective practice, and working with colleagues to build consistency across classrooms.

Training or experience in Teach Well, Explicit Instruction, or similar evidence‐informed instructional approaches is desirable. It is not a prerequisite. Safety Bay SHS will support staff through professional learning, instructional coaching, and collaborative structures as we continue to strengthen our whole‐school approach to teaching and learning.
