Role: EL1 Program Manager
Location: Tasmania (hybrid)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Length: 6 months with the possibility of extension
Pay: $****** per day + super
Role Purpose
We are seeking a highly skilled and collaborative Program Manager to drive critical program delivery and strategic policy initiatives. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, you will lead a dedicated team to manage key internal and external stakeholder relationships and represent the organisation across a variety of professional forums. In this role, you will be trusted to apply exceptional leadership, resource management and sound judgement to navigate highly complex and sensitive issues in a dynamic, evolving environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee, analyse and evaluate project and program outputs, aims and objectives to ensure alignment with strategic goals.
- Engage and coordinate specialist project service providers, including external contractors and consultants.
- Maintain expert, up-to-date knowledge in relevant fields to provide high-level advice and technical expertise that guides project and program activities.
- Coordinate long-term strategic planning for major initiatives and agency-wide project delivery.
- Undertake comprehensive risk assessment and risk management activities, evaluating risks effectively within a changing workplace.
- Manage, mentor and provide decision‐making direction for team members and contractors, actively contributing to branch leadership and a positive, high‐performing culture.
Skills Required
- Analytical, conceptual and problem‐solving skills to unpack complex operational and strategic challenges.
- Exceptional communication and writing skills, with a proven track record of drafting and reviewing materials for senior public sector audiences.
- Ability to lead strategic policy initiatives, manage resources and guide teams through reform.
- Sound judgement, robust decision‐making capabilities and a robust commitment to public sector governance.
- High flexibility to respond to changing priorities and manage shifting project workloads effectively.
- Proven capability to build, maintain and leverage strong working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Knowledge and Experience
- Policy Implementation: Proven experience in strategic policy development, data analysis and the end‐to‐end preparation of policy papers, briefs, presentations and ministerial correspondence.
- Public Sector Reform: Demonstrated experience leading teams within a public sector framework to successfully deliver complex reform policies, programmes or projects.
- Legislation: Practical experience working with, interpreting and applying legislative frameworks and regulatory instruments.
- Procurement Commissioning: Experience with strategic commissioning methodologies and a baseline understanding of Commonwealth procurement rules.
- Sector Commitment: A strong motivation to optimise delivery frameworks, drive positive service outcomes and champion meaningful organisational impacts.
Qualifications
- A relevant bachelor degree is highly desirable, or equivalent professional work experience in a similar corporate or government setting.
Eligibility
- Citizen: Australian Citizen.
- Vetting: Satisfactory completion of a Baseline Security Clearance and National Police Check is mandatory prior to commencement.
