Lead hands-on security uplift in a small, agile federal ICT team
Your new company
Our client is a Federal Government department seeking to engage a Cloud Security Specialist on an initial 6-month contract with likely extensions. This role is part of a major Essential Eight uplift project following a recent cloud implementation and transition to in-house ICT operations. An active NV1 clearance is preferred; Baseline clearance with eligibility to upgrade will also be considered. This role is open to candidates based in Canberra, ACT or Melbourne, VIC.
Your new role You will join a dedicated cyber security team focused on improving security maturity across a fully cloud-based environment. This is a hands-on technical role and will involve implementing Essential Eight Maturity controls as part of a structured project plan.
Key responsibilities:
* Deploy and configure Microsoft Security Suite tools (Defender XDR, Defender for Cloud, Sentinel, Intune, Purview).
* Implement MFA, PAM, patch compliance, and hardening guidelines.
* Deliver Milestone 1 of the security uplift project within the first 6 months.
* Document and maintain compliance records for audit readiness.
What you'll need to succeed
* Strong experience with Microsoft Security Suite (Defender XDR, Defender for Cloud, Sentinel, Intune, Purview).
* Hands-on experience implementing Essential Eight controls in cloud environments.
* Solid understanding of ASD ISM and PSPF compliance requirements.
* Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, and Azure security controls.
* Familiarity with endpoint management and device hardening.
Preferred Skills:
* ServiceNow and Veeam Backup experience highly regarded.
* Knowledge of automated patching strategies and scripting for configuration remediation.
