About The Queensland Police Service (QPS) The QPS acts as the primary law enforcement and community safety agency for Queensland. About the Role Are you passionate about shaping narratives and fostering meaningful connections between law enforcement and the public? We are seeking a dynamic individual to join the QPS team as the Director of Media and Public Affairs. In this role, you'll serve as a strategic advisor, providing insightful counsel to the Commissioner, QPS executives, senior officers, and government officials on media communication and public affairs strategies. Your proactive approach will be instrumental in identifying potential issues and implementing robust plans to achieve organisational objectives and bolster the organisation's reputation. As the leader of the Media and Public Affairs Group within the Communications, Culture and Engagement Division (CCED), reporting to the Executive Director of CCED, you'll oversee operations, ensuring the team is equipped with the necessary resources and expertise to effectively manage issues and crises in a 24/7 media environment. Your innovative strategies will not only promote the positive work of the QPS but also contribute to crime prevention efforts and support recruitment and retention initiatives. You'll also play a pivotal role in developing and delivering comprehensive media-related training and representing the Commissioner and Executive Director on various platforms, both locally and nationally. Additionally, your leadership will extend to frontline media operations across regional areas, and guiding teams responsible for diverse areas such as publishing, graphic design, social media management, and community engagement. About you You will be a seasoned media/communications and PR expert who has built relevant skills and relationships over the course of your career. While a tertiary qualification in Journalism or communications would be well regarded, it is not a pre-requisite. Ideally, you are a senior leader who has gained experience in all facets of the role which include media/external communications, reputation management, public affairs, social media, and forum presentations.
