Offer description

Osborne Richardson are the go-to recruitment agency for Environmental, Compliance and Investigations roles across Australia. Being very proud to call Brisbane our hometown, we love working on roles from our local colleagues. On this occasion, we have a cracking opportunity in Logan City Council. We are seeking a Senior Investigations Officer for Council's Construction Taskforce. This role will run for an initial 6 months from early January and will play a key role, assisting Council to build positive, ongoing relationships with local Developers/Builders in this fast-growing region. In building these relationships, the role will ensure that ongoing development does not pose a risk to the environment or the health of the community through advice, education and (as a last resort) enforcement. Duties will be widespread and fast-paced, including: Identifying and assessing compliant and non-compliant development and building practices with reference to the Planning Act 2016, the Local Government Act 2009, the Environmental Protection Act 1994, the Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011, the Logan Planning Scheme 2015, and Council’s local laws. Application of technical knowledge on development and building legislation and practices to make decisions about inspection techniques, relevant offences, and suitable penalties. Applying technical knowledge of the development journey and contemporary development practices in the field. Undertaking on-site investigations, gather relevant evidence, facilitate resolution of issues, and initiate prompt enforcement outcomes, if required, in accordance with legislation. Modelling exemplary compliance with Workplace Health and Safety legislation when attending active development and construction sites, traffic areas, bush land, drainage and waterway areas. Provision of clear and consistent advice and direction, demonstrating transparency, integrity and sound judgement. We work very closely with this team and have placed many candidates in identical roles where they have now gone on to become permanent members of this and other teams within Council. As we are so well placed, we always bring the team the best candidates in the market. That is our reputation and our calling card (ask around). If you think you can join this illustrious band of brothers and sisters, please ensure you review the following key criteria for the role closely: Knowledge of the Planning Act 2016, the Environmental Protection Act 1994, the Building Act 1975, the Local Government Act 2009, Logan Planning Scheme 2015, Council’s local laws and associated codes, standards, and regulations. Knowledge of the building and construction industry, and the practical implications of development in the local community. A tertiary qualification or sound prior experience in an area related to the development industry is highly desirable. A proven track record in undertaking complex investigations, conducting research and drawing conclusions to support consistent interpretation of legislation, ideally in a Local or State Government environment. Highly developed written and oral communication skills including the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships, negotiate and apply conflict resolution skills to influence outcomes at all levels. Possession of a current 30215 General Safety Induction (Construction Industry) white card. If you think you have what it takes, we will always be happy to hear from you. Please feel free to contact Owen Millar on 0414 706 605 or email Owen@osbornerichardson.com.au.
