The Opportunity
Pacific Optics is seeking an experienced National Product Manager to join our Merchandise team on a 9-month fixed-term contract. This is a hands-on, commercially-focused role where you will take full ownership of designated product categories — from identifying trends and sourcing product through to go-to-market execution and category performance.
Reporting to the General Manager Merchandise and Marketing, you will sit at the intersection of product, commercial, and supply chain — championing best-in-class category offerings across all relevant channels and partnering closely with Sales, Design, Operations, and Finance to deliver profitable growth.
Your accountabilities in the role will include:
* Own end-to-end category strategy for designated product categories — from trend identification and product sourcing through to go-to-market execution and in-market performance, ensuring alignment across customers and business objectives
* Lead new product development in partnership with Design, delivering launches on time, within budget, and to a best-in-class commercial standard
* Build and manage strategic supplier relationships, negotiating costs and managing the supply chain
* Drive gross sales and margin targets through sound product mix decisions, COGS management, and inventory discipline
* Act as the category and product expert across the business — contributing to account reviews, commercial planning, and cross-functional decision making.
What You Bring
* Proven success in FMCG, grocery or food is essential; Consumer Product Sourcing experience highly regarded
* Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills; a genuine team player with excellent communication skills and who contributes positively to culture
* Comprehensive understanding of local and overseas sourcing, supply chain, and inventory management
* Strong experience developing and executing strategic category plans
* Ability to manage and balance consumer, retail customer, and internal commercial demands
* Exceptional negotiation skills with a track record of achieving win-win commercial outcomes
* High-level analytical capability to interpret retail and consumer trend data
* Well-developed presentation skills — confident presenting internally and to external retail partners
* Self-starter with the initiative, ownership, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
